About the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)
Helping Canadians Access Affordable Dental and Denture Care
The Canadian Dental Care Plan is a new federal program that helps reduce the financial barriers to dental care for millions of Canadians. Through the CDCP, eligible patients receive partial or full coverage for a wide range of oral health services — including removable dentures.
Who Can Apply?
To qualify for the CDCP, you must:

Have no access to dental insurance

Have an adjusted family net income below $90,000

Be a Canadian resident for tax purposes

Have filed your Canadian tax return (and your spouse’s, if applicable) in the previous year
What Denture Services Are Covered?
If you qualify for the CDCP, coverage includes:
✓ Complete dentures (upper and lower)
✓ Denture adjustments and repairs
✓ Denture relines & rebases (excluding soft liners)
✓ Denture exams and fitting appointments
What Will You Pay Under the CDCP?

One of the best things about the Canadian Dental Care Plan is that it makes denture care far more affordable for many Canadians. Here’s what you need to know about how the costs work — and why now is the perfect time to take advantage of this program:
CDCP Co-Payments Based on Income
Depending on your household income, your out-of-pocket costs could be very low:

Households earning below $70,000 may pay the minimum co-payment

Households earning between $70,000 and $89,999 will pay a co-payment on a sliding scale (up to 60%)
Additional Fees
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) uses a fee schedule that does not reflect current denture service costs. As the treatment costs exceed the amounts set by the CDCP, you’ll be responsible for the difference. We’ll always let you know ahead of time about any additional applicable charges.
Important Notes to Know Before You Go
Many people mistakenly think CDCP covers 100% of all dental costs. While it offers fantastic savings, it’s important to understand:

If your income is between $70,000 and $90,000, you will have a co-payment of 40–60%

You may also be responsible for any costs above the CDCP’s established fees

You must reapply for the CDCP every year, as coverage is based on your previous year's income tax return
Provider Participation
You can only receive CDCP coverage from a provider who is registered for the program and agrees to bill Sun Life directly. We are fully participating in the CDCP and will handle this for you.
